Hands down, the most entertaining, exciting, and addicting games for Gameboy available are the Pokemon Gameboy games. It has so much variety and so many hours of game-play that there is always something new to do. Even if you do manage to master one of the games, there are plenty more in the series for you to challenge! There are absolutely countless hours of fun to be had.
A major success of the series is that each game manages to build upon the best ideas of older entries, building a brand new, fresh experience with each game.

Every single wild battle in Pokemon is random, this means you can play the game a million times and each time have a different play experience, running into different Pokemon and playing it differently each time. Since each Pokemon has unique abilities, skills, and attacks, the replayability of the series soars as you experiment with different combinations and tactics for each battle.
As a huge fan of the original games in the Pokemon Gameboy games series (Red, Blue, Green), I highly recommend that you look into purchasing the newer additions as well. There is so much fresh, new content that you won't feel like you're just repeating your experience from older entries.
Years down the track you are still able to pick up any of the earlier games and start playing again without any feeling of inadequacy. Older versions of the game have exciting and unique storylines which offer super-fun experiences.
Pokemon Gameboy games have established themselves as a series that's here to stay for a very, very long time. And they deserve it! This is truly a classic game series which should be around for many more years. If you haven't played any of the Pokemon Gameboy games, you should, by all means, try one out. I guarantee you'll be as happy with the series as I am.
