Bonding Group Activities For Kids' Sports Teams

Group activities for children's sports teams usually revolves around practice and play, with the final sports party at the end. These things are all good as bonding group activities for kids' sports teams.

But sometimes, getting away from the sport itself can help the team bond better. The usual top-player may not be as good as the newer, shyer players are at other activities, and a mutual respect can develop.

If, for example, you want your lead hitter to continue being confident, but are concerned that she's getting a little too full of herself with a newer player, the newer player might shine and actually help the top hitter out during a beading or craft activity where the newer player is a little better at that craft than your star hitter.

Plus, teammates learn more about each other during varied group activities, and will more easily read the body language of their teammates during real games, and automatically play in sync more easily.

Here are a few group activity ideas for kids' sports teams:

- Check the local paper for events the kids would enjoy as a group: parades, balloon twisting demonstrations, events at the local pizza parlor, a sports car show, etc.

- Go out to the movies as a group activity.

- Make a craft together. Working together with our hands is a great group activity for bonding. Gather materials to make kites, a banner for the team, do beading... the possibilities are endless.

- Cook or bake together. The kitchen offers wonderful possibilities for bonding group activities. Create a specific group activity goal, such as preparing an after-game picnic for the parents and other spectators who support the team, or baking cookies to give as thanks to the volunteers who help the team out.

Whatever group activities you choose to use with your team, make sure it isn't the star players who get to choose what the activity will be. If you want to reward top players, it's best to do it in a different way, and not to use the team bonding activities as part of an individual's reward. Rather, just have it be a team activity regardless of playing ability, and the activity should serve your team better as a method for bonding.
